A Statement from the Chair of HCP

March 10th, 2026

The Board has, with great regret, agreed to begin the winding up of Hexham Community Partnership.

This follows the recent decision by Hexham Town Council to discontinue grant funding.

The annual grant from the town council represented the majority of our income, and despite significant work behind the scenes, with such short notice, we have simply not been able to quickly identify enough financial support to allow us to continue.

I want to offer my sincere thanks to our talented and dedicated staff and to my fellow board members for everything they have done.

Over recent weeks we have spoken with town councillors, county councillors, our MP, funders, and many friends of the Partnership. The level of support and goodwill shown towards the organisation has been deeply appreciated.

We have also started positive discussions with partner organisations about creating safe havens for our projects. These talks are ongoing, and we hope to make further announcements soon. Our aim is to ensure that the projects that mean so much to the community can continue in some form.

This is, of course, a very difficult time for our staff. We are speaking with the HCP team based at the Queen’s Hall about redundancy and looking at how we can support them through this process. Their skills and commitment are a real asset to Hexham, and we want to do everything we can to help them move forward and remain part of the community they have served so well.

Although this is a disappointing moment, I am incredibly proud of everything Hexham Community Partnership — its staff, freelancers, volunteers, and supporters — has achieved over the last 20 years.

We will work to conclude this process professionally and with dignity, knowing that the organisation has played a very important role in making Hexham the place it is today.

Thank you to everyone who has, and continues to, provide support.
